It is very important to conduct a consultation with a doctor in the right way. The result of treatment entirely depends on it.
An important role is played by the emotional contact between the doctor and the patient. Only trusting relationships will allow you to sincerely share your problems with the specialist and convince you to accept the prescribed examination and treatment.
Each of us has visited a doctor at least once in his life. During the visit to a doctor, the patient needs to be examined, seen, listened. It is also necessary to write out sick leave, make a diagnosis, prescribe treatment, write a prescription.
Things are a bit easier in private medical clinics. The appointment lasts much longer. But sometimes this time is not enough to thoroughly deal with the problem. The productivity of a specialist’s appointment depends on how much contact is made between the doctor and the patient from the first minutes of communication. Therefore, it would be nice for the patient to prepare for a consultation with a doctor.
How to Prepare for the Appointment?
First, you need to decide which symptom or symptoms you are most concerned about at the moment. When a specialist’s choice has been made, it is necessary to recall which diseases in this area you had before, how you were treated (for example, to clarify the names of the drugs you are taking), whether there are hereditary features, what chronic diseases are, what medications you had allergic reactions to. Perhaps this information is not required, but it may be very valuable for making the correct diagnosis.
It’s really good if you take with you all the medical card about your state of health and previous diseases. This, often, avoids unnecessary additional examinations and waste of money.
Types of consultations
It is customary to distinguish between primary and repeated consultations of specialists.
How do they differ and why are they needed?
The primary consultation is the first meeting of the doctor with the patient on this disease. The maximum task for the primary consultation is to determine the diagnosis and prescribe treatment. However, this is not always possible.
In case of more severe problems, the task of the initial consultation becomes the most detailed conversation between the patient and the doctor, a general examination, collecting information of interest to the doctor and determining the direction of the diagnostic search. As a result of the primary consultation, the doctor, as a rule, prescribes the necessary additional surveys (tests, ultrasound, X-rays and others), as well as, if necessary, consultations of other specialists.
The results of this diagnostic search will allow the doctor to confirm or deny his primary assumptions and correctly formulate the diagnosis, and, therefore, prescribe the correct treatment. Sometimes, the results of additional examinations reveal that a completely different specialist should treat you.
